Senior Application Developer

BCS, a wholly owned subsidiary of NETS and part of the NETS Group, manages and operates the clearing and payment infrastructure for the Singapore Automated Clearing House. This includes services such as Fast and Secure Transfers (FAST), Inter-bank GIRO (IBG), and the Cheque Truncation System (CTS). BCS also supports PayNow and the SGQR Central Repository, among other services.

Team and Position Summary

The Technology Division at BCS is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and support of BCS applications such as FAST, Giro, CTS, PayNow, SGQR, TFR, eGIRO and its critical infrastructure, ensuring its operational stability, regulatory compliance, and service reliability.

The Application Delivery (‘Change’) department is regarded as BCS’ domain experts, overseeing the enhancement, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of applications, ensuring its functionality, security, and performance in alignment with set standards.

The Application Developer will be responsible for designing and delivering scalable, secure, and business-aligned technology solutions. The scope includes architecture planning, solution design, prototyping, and supporting delivery teams throughout the development lifecycle. The successful candidate will need to have a strong background in Java technologies and AWS, with expertise in application architecture and development, SQL query fine tuning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support including prototyping and coding.
• Build proof-of-concepts (POCs)
• Build Java and Web applications on AWS and On-premises.
• Support build, deployment, and testing phases.
• Ensure applications comply with security, risk and regulatory requirements.
• Translate business and technical requirements into robust and maintainable solutions.
• Conduct performance and capacity assessments.
• Deep dive and solve complex engineering problems.
• Develop and maintain expertise in Java technologies (e.g., Struts, Spring Boot / Spring Batch), Tomcat, Oracle 19c, React JS, ServiceNow and AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, ECS, CloudWatch)
• Contribute to technical documentation and implementation activities.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in building and managing critical applications in financial services, payments or other regulated industries. 

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong knowledge and experience in Java technologies (e.g., Spring Boot / Spring Batch)
• Solid understanding of SDLC and agile delivery methodologies
• Proven experience working with React JS / Angula JS
• ServiceNow development experience in building complex workflows and integration with external systems will be an added advantage.
• Proven experience in supporting critical application workloads on AWS Cloud
• Comfortable operating in a regulated environment

• AWS Cloud Certifications (Solutions Architect Associate or Developer Associate)
